Highlights of the Week

Fútbol Day

As we continue celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month, Monday we recognized the love of fútbol across many Spanish-speaking countries and communities. From neighborhood matches to international competitions like the World Cup, fútbol brings families, friends, and communities together. Countries throughout Latin America and the Spanish-speaking world have rich fútbol traditions and have produced some of the sport’s most celebrated players. We celebrated the way sports can build community, inspire pride, and bring people together.

Vaquero Day

Tuesday we highlighted the vaquero tradition of Mexico and the American Southwest. The word vaquero comes from the Spanish word vaca, meaning “cow,” and Mexican vaqueros helped shape many of the ranching traditions we associate with cowboys today. Their skills in horseback riding, cattle herding, roping, and ranching influenced cowboy culture throughout the American West. The vaquero tradition continues today through ranching, rodeos, music, and fashion.

Volleyball Goes Pink

The Lady Grizzlies Volleyball teams wore pink for breast cancer awareness on Monday at their game against The Rice School. The 7th and 8th Grade teams are still undefeated! Come out Monday 10/19 for their last game of the season in the West Briar Gym @ 6pm.

ViPs Certification

Volunteers help our school in countless ways. Each year, all HISD Volunteers in Public Schools (ViPs) are required to recertify through HISD's Raptor system. Please complete your certification so you will be ready to join in the fun at West Briar Middle School. Thank you for everything you do to help!

This certification is required to volunteer in the school, it is a quick training and form and will be valid for the whole school year.
